Chimonobambusa tumidissinoda

Chimonobambusa tumidissinoda
Walking Stick Bamboo”

(Syn.  Qiongzhuea tumidinoda)

Native to China where its very decorative stems were once converted into walking sticks.

Introduced to the UK in 1987.

Highly attractive feathery foliage with leaves up to 10cm long.

The culms are initially dark green and have exceptionally prominent nodes.

This is an interesting collectors’ plant suitable for milder areas. Believed to have tolerated -13C.

On favourable sites it is one of  the most vigorously spreading bamboos in cultivation but is    surprisingly slow to propagate and therefore rather scarce.

   Can be grown in containers.

    Best in light shade.

Limited availability.
