Phyllostachys glauca


A vigorous and very hardy bamboo with very attractive glaucous young canes, giving the whole plant a slightly
bluish tinge. Canes later turn to green.

Upright habit, steadily spreading to form an open grove.

A tough species which seems resistant to exposure.

Tolerant of a wide range of soil types and possibly to occasional waterlogging.

Once established, plentiful canes are produced capable of reaching a diameter of up to 6cm.  Can be harvested for garden use.

Estimated spread in 10 years 1-4m.

Height around  16/20ft.(5/7m)  or more.

Has tolerated -20C.

Sun or light shade.

A vigorous and impressive specimen plant where space is available or can be used for  a broad screen. or windbreak.

  Limited availability.

 

Phyllostachys glauca yunzhu 

 A scarce form with irregular brown or purple spots on the older culms.

More compact but other characteristics identical.
