Phyllostachys aurea 'Holochrysa'
A good form of Phyllostachys aurea with yellow stems, enhanced by sunlight. New culms are initially turquoise-green, becoming yellow in the second year. The congested nodes characteristic of this species develop at the base of older culms and this unusual feature can be enhanced by pruning away the lower branches.. Less tall than the type, generally reaching only about 13ft. (4m). Usually an upright, slowly expanding clump or small grove. Light green foliage Older plants may benefit from thinning. An excellent, well behaved specimen plant or screen. Develops much more slowly than Phyllostachys aureosulcata 'Aureosulcata' but this may be an advantage where space is resticted. Slow to propagate so availability may sometimes be limited.
