Phyllostachys aurea 'Koi'
An excellent, well behaved specimen plant or screen, especially where space is limited..
Young culms are initially blue-green, becoming yellow in their second year.
The congested nodes characteristic of this species develop at the base of older culms and can be enhanced by pruning away the lower branches.
A variety of great character, especially useful for Japanese style gardens.
Has tolerated - 20C.
Usually forms a dense, tidy, upright clump of around 13ft. (4.5m) with very little tendency to spread.
Foliage pale green.
Older plants may benefit from thinning the older canes.
Develops more slowly than Phyllostachys aureosulcata 'Spectabilis' but this may be an advantage where space is resticted.
Slow to propagate so its commercial viability is questionable. Availability of 'Koi' may be limited and it is most unlikely to be found in garden centres or "sheds".
