Phyllostachys bissetii

Masses of dense, dark green foliage which remains fully evergreen during most winters.

Plentiful tall, slightly arching canes which are shiny and dark green with quite a large diameter. With age, the stem colour changes to yellowish green.

Height about 16ft (5m) or more.

Has tolerated -24C.

Vigorously spreading and consequently may  be more widely spaced when used to form a screen. Young shoots edible.

Suitable for sun or light shade.

Vigorous, very hardy, and highly effective for screening but can also be used in containers.
