Phyllostachys parvifolia
An outstanding new introduction with enormous potential as a specimen plant or screen.
A tall bamboo capable of maturing quickly and forming a highly impressive specimen plant or small grove even under cool northerly conditions.
Upright green culms of large diameter bearing masses of small leaves.
Suitable for sun or light shade.
Expected to be clump forming but with a slightly open habit. Spread in 10 years expected to be 1/1.5m.
Its mature height in the UK is not yet known but
it is expected that it will be
well over 20ft.(7m) and that its culm diameter will exceed those of
Phyllostachys vivax.
Hardy and has withstood -24C.
Here at the nursery however around 1m of the top of its canes appear to
have been killed by the unusually severe weather at the beginning of the winter
of 2024/5. The remainder of the clump was undamaged.
Slow to propagate so availability may sometimes be limited.
